In his collegiate debut, freshman forward Yancy Gates (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow) recorded his first career double-doulble and junior guard Deonta Vaughn (Indianapolis, Ind./Harmony Community) became the 45th player in Bearcat history to score 1,000 career points, as the University of Cincinnati men's basketball team downed South Dakota, 77-46, in its season opener Sunday evening at Fifth Third Arena.

The University of Cincinnati basketball team opens up the 2008-09 campaign with an exhibition game vs. Carleton University Saturday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. Audio and video of the game will be available to fans via the internet at www.GoBEARCATS.com. UC is coming off a 2007-08 season in which it quadrupled its BIG EAST win total from two to eight and made its first postseason tournament under head coach Mick Cronin. The Bearcats will be taking on one of Canada's perennial powers Carleton University.
