Cincinnati, Ohio -- Two days after the completion of the Major League Draft, University of Cincinnati senior pitcher B.J. Borsa (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) has inked a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Reds.
Borsa finished the 2003 season with a 4-7 record and a 4.25 ERA, striking out a career-high 78 hitters in a team-best 101.2 innings of work. He will report to the Reds? Gulf Coast League affiliate in Sarasota, Fla. next week, with the squad set to open the season on June 19.
?We are really excited for B.J. to get this opportunity to continue representing UC in professional baseball,? said Bearcats head coach Brian Cleary. ?He has worked hard and deserves this opportunity.?
Borsa wrapped up a stellar career as one of the most decorated pitchers in school history. In his four years, Borsa tied for the most wins in school history (19), while owning the innings pitched (363.0) and games started (59) marks. Borsa?s third and final attempt at the school wins mark came up short as the Bearcats? season-finale against Charlotte was rained out in the top of the second inning on May 17.
In addition to the school marks, Borsa set a Conference USA career record with 13 complete games and finished his time at Cincinnati with a 19-26 overall record and a 4.86 ERA.
