FORT WORTH, Texas -- Senior guard Valerie King was named second team All-Conference USA, announced the league on Wednesday. The second-leading scorer in Cincinnati women?s history, she earned first team honors the previous two years.
King has scored 2,083 career points, trailing only Oscar Robertson (2,973) and Cheryl Cook (2,367) in Bearcat basketball history. She set a UC and C-USA women?s record earlier this year by scoring 46 points in a game, the most by any player in Fifth Third Arena. Her 323 career three-pointers is fifth in Division I history and just seven behind the C-USA record. She is also UC?s career leader in three-point percentage (.397) and free throw percentage (.868). She is the first Bearcat woman to earn three all-conference accolades in their career. She is averaging 15.1 points per game this year and has made .401 of her three-pointers, 26th in the nation.
?I think it is very deserving,? said head coach Laurie Pirtle.? ?If we would have won some of the close games she deserved to be even higher.? I think it's a credit to her to finish her senior season as one of the best players in the league.?
The Bearcats closed the regular season 14-14 overall and 5-9 in C-USA. They open play in the C-USA Tournament on Thursday, March 4 when they face USF at 1 p.m. CT.
