PROVIDENCE, R.I.--For the third time this season, University of Cincinnati redshirt freshman Jessie Nevitt has been named the BIG EAST Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week. Nevitt picked up the award after helping UC to an upset win over Western Kentucky and a conference win at Seton Hall.
For the week, Nevitt (Kennesaw, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain) averaged 3.50 kills and 0.88 blocks and hit .418. In the win over previously 18-1 Western Kentucky, Nevitt tied her career-high with 18 kills, while hitting .516. She added 10 kills with four blocks in UC's Sunday win at Seton Hall.
This season, Nevitt ranks third on the squad with 2.91 kills per game and is fourth in the BIG EAST with 1.39 blocks per game. She is also hitting a team-best .334, which ranks fifth in the BIG EAST.
The Bearcats (11-6, 4-1 BIG EAST) return to action on Wednesday night, travelling to Morehead State for a 6 p.m. non-conference match-up. That contest is UC's final tune-up before a battle with No. 6 Louisville on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena. The Louisville match is scheduled to be televised live on ESPNU.
