CINCINNATI---Former professional pitcher Chris Reilly is the newest member of the University of Cincinnati baseball staff as he will tutor the Bearcats' hurlers beginning with the 2008 season. Reilly enjoyed a stellar playing career and comes to UC via Daytona Beach Community College.
"Chris is an outstanding get for this program," UC head coach Brian Cleary said. "His experience first as a player at the professional level and then as a coach will do nothing but help us in our quest to win BIG EAST Championships. We are very excited to have a coach of Chris' caliber coming on board."
Reilly has spent the last two seasons at DBCC working with the squad's pitchers and catchers and serving as the Coordinator of the Falcon Baseball Developmental Program. During his stay in Florida, Reilly helped the Falcons to consecutive conference championships and tutored the 2006 conference pitcher of the year.
"I am very thankful for the chance to coach baseball at such a high level," Reilly said. "Coach Cleary and the Department of Athletics at UC have provided a great opportunity for me and I plan on doing everything I can to help the team and the University succeed both athletically and academically."
Reilly, a native of Bound Brook, N.J., brings BIG EAST ties to the UC program, having spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Seton Hall. As a Pirate, Reilly won 10 games over two seasons and was an honorable mention Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2000. He finished his career at national powerhouse Oklahoma State, winning six games for the Cowboys and earning honorable mention all-conference honors in 2002. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from OSU in 2005.
After completing his collegiate career, Reilly played two seasons in the Baltimore Orioles' minor league system, before wrapping up his playing career with two years as a member of the Windy City Thunderbolts of the Independent Frontier League.
Reilly furthered his coaching career during the summer of 2006, serving as pitching coach for the St. Cloud River Bats of the Northwoods League.
Reilly will join the staff headed by 12th year skipper Cleary and associate head coach Brad Meador.
