CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team had three additional players taken on Day 2 of the Major League Baseball Draft as junior left-handed pitcher Dan Osterbrock (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain), senior centerfielder Tony Campana (Springboro, OH/Springboro) and junior transfer third baseman Mike Spina (Newberry, Fla./Florida CC) were selected in the seventh (No. 216 overall), 13th (No. 401 overall), and 45th rounds (No. 1,355 overall). Osterbrock and Spina were taken by the Minnesota Twins, while Campana joins junior second baseman Josh Harrison (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton), who was selected yesterday in the sixth round, in the Chicago Cubs organization.

This marks just the first time in the program's history four players have been taken in the same draft. The last time UC had three players taken was in 2001 when Kevin Youkilis (8th Round, Boston Red Sox) Curtus Moak (25th round, Cincinnati Reds), and Chris Hamblen (35th round, San Francisco Giants) were selected in the same year. Osterbrock, Campana and Spina are the 37th, 38th, and 39th Bearcats taken all-time in the MLB Draft.

Osterbrock, a 2008 second-team all-BIG EAST selection, was the ace of the Bearcats staff this season, notching a 9-2 record, a 3.55 ERA, and 74 strikeouts in 99.0 innings. He broke the school record for career wins in just three seasons, picking up his 21st career win in the opening game of the BIG EAST Championship in Clearwater, Fla., vs. West Virginia. He also ranks third in career innings (255.0) and seventh in strikeouts (194) at UC.

Campana, who transferred to Cincinnati after spending his first two seasons at UNC-Asheville, made an impact as a base stealer in two seasons for UC as he set the school records for career (104), season (60 - 2007) and individual game (6) stolen bases. In 59 starts this year, Campana posted a .338 batting average and collected 89 career hits as he was selected to BIG EAST's first-team all-conference squad. His nine career triples, eight of which he posted this season, are tied for seventh on the all-time UC list.

Spina, who transferred to UC prior to the season from Florida Community College, came on during the middle of the season to become one of the Bearcats' top offensive threats as he finished in the Top 10 in the BIG EAST in batting average (8th, .377), home runs (t-1st, 21), RBI (1st, 79), total bases (2nd, 163), and slugging percentage (1st, .731). His home run and RBI totals set new school single-season marks, helping him earn second-team all-BIG EAST honors.

The Bearcats ended the 2008 season with a program-record 39 wins and made it to the BIG EAST Conference Championship game for the first time.
