WEST HARRISON, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati football team started off its second session of two-a-day practices Friday with a solid two-hour workout at Higher Ground Conference Center.

The practice focused on red-zone and short-yardage work with emphasis placed on installing the goal line package.

"This was the first time we went live on a short field," head coach Brian Kelly said. "The defense was very successful, getting stops on the first six plays. We saw some very good things on that side of the ball. We need to work on some execution things on the offensive side, but it overall was a good morning. I'm hoping we can bounce back with a high-energy workout this afternoon."

The Bearcats learned of the NCAA's decision to deny quarterback Ben Mauk a sixth year of eligibility after practice. The complete news release can be found by "> clicking here.

The team will return to the field Friday afternoon for a workout from 3:15 to 5 p.m. and will practice only once Saturday before heading to King's Island Sunday for Meet the Team Day.
