KENT, Ohio- Two first-place, and two second-place finishes capped off an impressive second day performance by the University of Cincinnati women's indoor track and field teams as they competed in the Golden Flash Gala, there first meet of the season.
By the end of Saturday the Bearcats had notched seven top-five finishes, including victories in the 1000-meter run, and the 4x400 meter relay.
Sophomore Jenna Heaton won the 1000-meter run, taking first-place with a time of 2:59.33. This marks her first victory at UC in individual competition. Last year Heaton was part of a 4x800 relay team that took first-place at the Gladstein Invitational.
The quartet of Shanay Portis, Alyssa Edley, Aricka Rhodes, and Ashley Arnold captured the 4x400 meter relay, registering a time of 3:52.01. The relay capped off an impressive debut by freshman Shanay Portis, who earlier in the day notched a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.71).
Natasha Burse finished second in the 60-meter dash, with a time of 7.71. The junior recorded a second top-five finish later on in the 200 meters, crossing the line in 25.30, good enough for fifth-place.
In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Paris Campbell placed second, clocking in with a time of 8.92, while fellow sophomore Jenny Harsh finished fifth in the one-mile run.
UC is back in action on Jan. 9, when they travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Indiana Open.
