PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Cincinnati's Mackenzie Fields was named BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season after her performance at the Jesse Owens Track Classic. Providence's Emily Sisson earned BIG EAST women's track honors and Notre Dame's Jeremy Rae took the men's track award. USF freshman Matthew O'Neal was named BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Fields' award comes after a first-place finish in the pole vault at the Jesse Owens Track Classic. The senior also broke the 10-year-old facility record with her mark of 4.35m (14' 3.25"). April Stiener of the University of Arkansas set the previous record of 13' 6.25" in 2003. Fields' mark also tied the Jesse Owens Stadium record, set by the University of Minnesota's Alicia Rue in 2009.
The height, which is the latest school record for Fields, ranks first in the league by more than a foot and is tied for fourth nationally.
Fields and the Bearcats compete in Miami University's RedHawk Invitational Saturday in Oxford before heading to next week's BIG EAST Conference championships in Piscataway, N.J.
