CINCINNATI -- University of Cincinnati senior catcher Woody Wallace (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) received the opportunity of a lifetime when he was selected to be the bullpen catcher for the American League at next week's Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park.
Wallace will be representing the Bearcats on the big stage for the game and several other All-Star Game festivities on Monday, July 13, and Tuesday, July 14.
"This is going to be an awesome experience for Woody and I'm excited for him to have this opportunity" said UC head coach Ty Neal. "It is another neat experience our student athletes have access to while attending the University of Cincinnati."
MLB released the rull rosters for the All-Star Game on Sunday, July 6. The American League team includes starting pitchers Chris Archer (Tampa Bay Rays), Sonny Gray (Oakland Athletics), Felix Hernzndez (Seattle Mariners), Dallas Keuchel (Houston Astros), David Price (Detroit Tigers) and Chris Sale (Chicago White Sox) and relievers Dellin Betances (New York Yankees), Brad Boxberger (Tampa Bay Rays), Zach Britton (Baltimore Orioles), Wade Davis (Kansas City Royals), Kelvin Herrera (Kansas City Royals), Darren O'Day (Baltimore Orioles) and Glen Perkins (Minnesota Twins). Catchers Salvador Perez (Kansas City Royals), Russell Martin (Toronto Blue Jays) annd Stephen Vogt (Oakland Athletics) also will represent the American League.
Former Bearcats pitcher Tim Burman (1972-74) also will play a role in the All-Star Game. The longtime Reds batting practice pitcher will toss BP for the National League prior to the game.
