DENVER -- Former University of Cincinnati mens' soccer player Emmanuel Appiah has signed a professional contract with the Colorado Rapids, the club announced on Friday, March 4. Appiah was a first round pick by the Rapids in January's MLS SuperDraft.

"Emmanuel has impressed in preseason and earned the chance to take his first steps in the professional game," Paul Bravo, Technical Director and VP of Soccer Operations, told ColoradoRapids.com.

Appiah had his highest-scoring season at UC last fall, recording five goals and six assists, while also earning a spot on both the All-American Athletic Conference and All-Ohio second teams. His six helpers ranked sixth in the conference, while his 16 total points ranked eighth. Appiah played in 65 matches during his Cincinnati career, scoring seven goals and adding 11 assists.

He graduated from UC in December 2015. He participated in the Columbus Crew SC College Combine last month and was one of 60 collegiate players in the MLS College Combine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, January 7-12.
