Nolan Records Double-Double in 3-0 Setback at #14 Kentucky

arly Nolan recorded a double-double and four Bearcats tallied at least six kills while playing 14 Kentucky close the entire night, but it was not enough as the University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a 3-0 score to the host Wildcats Saturday night in the finale of the Bluegrass Battle in Lexington, Ky.

LEXINGTON, Ky. Carly Nolan recorded a double-double and four Bearcats tallied at least six kills while playing #14 Kentucky close the entire night, but it was not enough as the University of Cincinnati volleyball team dropped a 3-0 score to the host Wildcats Saturday night in the finale of the Bluegrass Battle in Lexington, Ky. The Bearcats slipped to 0-3 on the season with UK improving to 3-0 after posting scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20 inside Memorial Coliseum.

• Cincinnati fell to 0-3 on the year while the Wildcats improved to 3-0
• Kentucky is ranked #14 in the AVCA preseason Top 25 poll
Carly Nolan led the way for the Bearcats offense as she tallied a team-high 11 kills and a team-high 10 digs for her first double-double of the year
Jade Tingelhoff recorded 28 assists while adding eight digs and a pair of block assists in the match
Maya Muldrow a season-high six kills as she was one of four Bearcats with at least six kills on the night as Nolan (11), Erica Kostelac (7) and Elly Ogle (6) joined her on the list
Chrysanthi Stamatiou recorded her first collegiate service ace while also recording five digs for the second match in a row
Maya Eller posted a pair of aces for the second match in a row after serving up a pair Friday against Arkansas State

// SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: UK, 25-21

• Cincinnati built an early 4-2 lead before the hosts ran three points in a row to take the lead at 5-4
• From there, the back-and-forth night started as each team took the lead back from the other and tied the set several times
• After tying the set at 17-17, UC fell behind by three with UK building a 20-17 lead before extending it with another run of three points, all coming off kills from Anna Nyberg
• Muldrow and Kostelac added back-to-back kills to stem the run and pull within three (23-20), but the Wildcats closed out the set with two-consecutive points to claim the early 1-0 lead
• In the set, Nolan had a team-high three kills with Kostelac adding two
• Tingelhoff, Nolan and Stamatiou each recorded four digs as well

Set 2: UK, 25-22
• Despite trailing 3-1 and 7-3, the Bearcats never gave in and battled their way back to a 10-10 tie, forcing the Wildcats to call time out after a three-point run by UC that included kills from Kostelac and Nolan on back-to-back plays
• UC would fall behind, 11-10, before eventually regaining the lead at 15-14 off another Nolan kill
• The Bearcats took a 20-18 lead, but the hosts again regained the lead with a four-point run to take a 22-21 lead
• From there, the Wildcats had two kills and a block to end the set and take a 2-0 lead overall
• The Bearcats hung tough in the set thanks to five blocks recorded after recording just one in the first set
• Of those five blocks, Jasmine Jones had a hand in three
• Nolan and Kostelac each had four kills with Nolan adding six digs as well

Set 3: UK, 25-20
• UC again took a lead to open the set, but, once again, UK came back and started a stretch of back-and-forth points scored
• After trailing 7-5, UC stormed back to take a 10-9 lead before a Wildcats ace and then a kill put UK on top for good
• UC got to within two points on several occasions, but could not find a way to reclaim the lead as the hosts won the final four points to turn a 22-20 lead into a 25-20 set win
• Muldrow and Nolan led the way with four kills each
Elly Ogle turned in a team-high three digs in the set

// NEXT MATCH
The Bearcats return to action Friday night at 7 p.m. with a rivalry match against host Xavier at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati. The match will be the first of three for UC at the Xavier Tournament with the Bearcats set to face Texas State at 10 a.m. and Western Michigan at 4 p.m. Saturday to close out the event.
