Student-Athlete FAQs

This policy governs the activities of University of Cincinnati student-athletes in pursuing compensation for their name, image, and likeness (NIL) and related responsibilities of the athletics department and Cincinnati employees.

Yes. All NIL agreements and benefits regardless of dollar value must be disclosed through NIL GO. 

NIL GO is an online platform created by the College Sports Commission to determine whether third-party NIL agreements (1) use a student-athletes Name, Image and Likeness for a valid business purpose and (2) offer compensation that is within a reasonable market range. 

You may NOT promote or endorse:

  • Gambling or sports betting 
  • Alcohol
  • Performance-enhancing supplements
  • Controlled substances (including marijuana)
  • Tobacco or vaping products
  • Adult entertainment
  • Any product or service that conflicts with the values or mission of the University of Cincinnati (UC) or reflects adversely on UC Athletics. 

International student-athletes should not enter any NIL agreements until they have consulted:

Yes. Non-cash benefits (free gear, meals, services, etc.) must be disclosed.

Yes. You may authorize one representative (e.g., an agent) to enter deal details, but you, the student-athlete, must submit the final disclosure. UC faculty or staff members cannot act as your representative.

Only during your own free time. NIL work is prohibited during official team activities or travel, including practices, meetings, team meals, media sessions, etc. 

Commercial use of UC marks requires written permission from UC Trademark & Licensing Services.

  • If your partner brand already has a licensing agreement with UC, usage is usually permitted.

You can support UC athletes in various ways, such as:

NIL GO serves as the single disclosure portal. After you and the athlete negotiate terms, log in to NIL GO, enter the deal information, and have the athlete submit the final confirmation. 

Yes—provided you are properly certified and the athlete designates you in NIL GO. UC faculty and staff are not eligible to serve as athlete representatives.
