The Sheakley Athletics Center was designed by Michael Schuster Associates. Phase I of the building process was completed September of 2010. This phase was comprised of the completion of the two lighted fields and the addition of the bubble. The second phase was completed in the summer of 2012. Phase two comprised of the press box, the 1,200 capacity seating area, concessions, and restrooms. The facility was dedicated and named in honor of local Cincinnatian Larry Sheakley, CEO of the Sheakley Group and lead donor to the project.
This beautiful, state-of-the art facility is hard to miss as it sits next to Marge Schott Stadium and borders the east side of campus. The facility includes two football fields, including a 50-yard field and a 100-yard field. From November through February, the 100-yard field becomes an indoor practice facility, covered by an air-supported bubble that maintains an interior temperature of 50-60 degrees. This gives the athletic department an additional 72,200 square-feet of space for athletics events and competitions.
From the turf to the locker rooms, Sheakley offers an intimate home field for the women's lacrosse team. Surrounding the 100-yard field is a 1,200 capacity seating area, a press box, team meeting space, concession stand, restrooms and scoreboard. In addition, the lighting system in the Sheakley Athletics Center makes the facility operational around the clock.
A new Motz Group Twenty-Four/Seven synthetic turf system was installed in Fall 2018, featuring inlaid lines for football and women’s lacrosse.
