CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2007 outdoor season with convincing victories at the third annual Early Bird Relays. The men's squad posted 176 points, while the women finished with 164 in the relay-style meet. The men's team earned 14 event crowns, while the women garnered 13.
Freshman Dayo Igeleke was impressive in his first collegiate meet, winning the 100 (10.65) and 200 meters (21.99), while leading off the champion 4x100 relay (41.66).
Junior Monica Hundley earned two event titles, grabbing the 100 meters (12.28) and the 100 hurdles (14.24), while finishing second in the 200 in 25.80. Her 100 hurdles time was just one-tenth of a second off the school record set by Ashley Arnett in 2003.
Renee Hein met the NCAA Mid-East Regional qualifying mark with a 5' 8-3/4" high jump, winning the event. She also captured the javelin title with a 120' 2" toss.
The men qualifyed 22 student-athletes for the BIG EAST Championships, while 11 women met qualifying marks. UC excelled in the 110 hurdles, qualifying five student-athletes for the BIG EAST Championships. Scott Maze (14.81), Troy Lammers (14.86), Isaac Hendricks (14.88), Kasey Waaland (14.88), and Brandon Wright (15.12) finished first through fifth in the event.
The Bearcats head to , for the Alabama Relays on March 22-23.
