OAK RIDGE, Tenn.--UC's women's rowing team had their "best team showing of the year" claims head coach Pam Mork.
The Bearcats finished our their long weekend of rowing at the SIRA Championships today with the varsity four, junior varsity eight and the varsity eight all making the `A' Grand Finals. This is the first time that all the Bearcats varsity boats have all made it into the `A' finals and as Mork explained, "This was just an amazing weekend. Everyone did great. As a team we had our best performances."
The varsity four (cox-Mary Locke; Kelly Camp, Jackie Kleinhans, Lindsay Fattlar, Katie McGill) was able to capture the bronze with a time of 7:48.0 in the finals against 18 other teams. The junior varsity 8's (cox-Melissa Patrick; Sarah Lautenslager, Jessica Miller, Lisa Teague, Jodie Lush, Crystal Coolbaugh, Emily Fox, Julie Idione, Stephanie Celek) placed fourth in just 7:08.6. The varsity 8's (Cox-Liz Johnson; Abby Beach, Sarah White, Jessica Beebe, Lindsay Kemna, Eliz Tremblay, Megan Peters, Emily Knaus, Beth Murhphy) placed sixth with a time of 6:54.3 but had the closest finish with only six seconds gapping between the teams. The novice 8's (Cox-Courtney Knudsen; Jackie Sander, Anna Hallett, Kara Stricker, Tamara Pakeman, Jessica Spencer, Jessica Bohache, Brianna McSemek, Ashey Ryan) then finished the day in second place with the time of 7:30.8 in the `B' petite finals.
Mork concluded, "It was a great foundation for us since we will be heading to the BIG EAST Championships next weekend."
The Bearcats will be heading to Worcester, Mass. next weekend for the BIG EAST Championships on Sunday April 29th.
