PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Cincinnati men's soccer sophomore midfielder David Sanz has been picked for the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, as announced Monday by the league office.
Sanz (Santander, Spain/IE La Marina) answered a 2-0 second half Bearcats deficit at Temple on Saturday with a conversion on a penalty kick. It marked UC's first PK score of the season and was Sanz's team-leading sixth goal of the year. The native Spaniard totaled two shots on the night. The Red & Black was unable to complete the comeback in Philadelphia, falling 2-1.
In addition to leading the team in goals, the sophomore also paces UC with five assists. His assist mark ranks 48th nationally and second in the league, while his total points (17) is 48th-best in the country and No. 5 in the AAC.
Sanz has now been named to the conference weekly honor three times this season, recently garnering the accolade on Sept. 4.
The Bearcats are back in action at home on Wednesday when they welcome Fort Wayne to Gettler Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Admission to the match is free as part of the Experience UC initiative.
