INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –
The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams started off the 2017 season strong by sweeping on the road at Indianapolis Friday night. The women won by a score of 215-85 while the men won 188-111. UC took the top three spots in nine events while earning twenty wins, 26 second place finishes and 21 third place finishes.

// EVENT SWEEPS
In the third event of the day, the Bearcats women's team took the top four spots in the 1000 yard freestyle. Rocky Laabs took first with a time of 10:14:05 followed by Caroline Sheehan in second place and Samantha Wheatley in third.

The men also swept the podium places in the 1000 yard freestyle. Chris Bready won the event with a time of 9:13:83. Toby Van Dyke came in second while Tyler Jones finished in third.

The women took the first through third spots in the 200 backstroke as Sydney King led the way followed by Natalie Obando and Tal Kidron. King came in at 2:05:64.  The other swimming even the women swept was the 200 yard IM, as Wheatley bested the competition, bringing in a time of 2:08:20. Michaela Wheeler finished second and Katherine Gob in third.

In diving, UC's Claire Schuermann won the 3 mtr competition with a score of 256.25. She was followed by teammates Trish Roscoe and Audrey Capannari.
On the men's side, the Bearcats took the top three finishes in the 200 yard freestyle, led by Din Selmanovic who came in at 1:41:43. Bready followed in second and Justin Crew placed third.

The men also swept the 200 yard butterfly. George Epsly and Ryan DiPietro tied for first place with a time of 1:53:34. Van Dyke came in third. Another UC men's sweep came in the 100 yard freestyle. Alex Fortman led the way with a 47:06 finish with Hans Kabelka and Din Selmanovic coming in second and third, respectively. Like the women, the men took all three podium spots in the 200 yard IM. Dom Polling's time of 1:53:22 brought him in first while Van Dyke finished in second and Nate Jonas in third.

The Bearcats took the top three spots in both the 1 mtr and 3 mtr diving competitions. Mitch Godar won the 1 mtr with a 335.05 followed by Louis Hunt and Ike Karn. Hunt took the top spot in the 2 mtr with Karn taking second and Godar coming in third.

Both Schuermann and Godar's dives were good enough to qualify the duo for NCAA Zones.

The Bearcats host their first meets of the season at Keating Aquatics Center on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21. UC hosts Cleveland State followed by South Carolina in back-to-back dual meets.
