WICHITA, Kan. – Kansas native Zach Harvey scored a career-high 19 points, including 12 in the first half, but Cincinnati couldn't keep pace with Wichita State, falling 82-76 Sunday at Charles Koch Arena.
Leading 30-29 at the half, the Shockers shot 58.6 percent (17 of 29) in the final 20 minutes, scoring 52 points.
UC (3-7, 1-4 American) went more than eight minutes without a basket after Jeremiah Davenport scored inside to give the Bearcats a 42-41 lead with 13:43 left. Wichita State (7-3, 3-1) built a 64-49 lead on a 24-7 run during the pivotal stretch while UC missed seven shots and converted 7 of 12 free throws.
Ricky Council IV scored 11 of his career-high 23 points for the Shockers during the spurt while Tyson Etienne tallied 10 of his 16 points during the run. Morris Udeze matched a career-high with 18 points.
The Bearcats continued to battle, chipping away at a 65-49 deficit with 5:35 left, to pull within six before time expired.
Harvey finished 7 of 10 from the field, making all four of his 3-point attempts for the Bearcats. Keith Williams scored 11 of his 14 points after intermission. David DeJulius contributed 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
UC struggled to take care of the ball, committing 15 miscues that Wichita State converted into 28 points.
