Desmond Ridder Named to the 2021 Davey O’Brien QB Class

Senior quarterback Desmond Ridder was named to the Davey O'Brian QB Class of 2021 Tuesday. He is now eligible to be voted one of the 16 semifinalists for the award.

CINCINNATI – Cincinnati senior quarterback Desmond Ridder was named to the Davey O'Brien QB Class for 2021 on Tuesday. He is now eligible to be voted as one of the 16 semifinalists for the award, which is given to the nation's top quarterback.
 
Through seven games in 2021, Ridder has passed for 1,620 yards and 15 touchdowns, while adding 134 yards and three scores on the ground. The Louisville, Ky., native is the active career leader in wins and winning % among NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision signal callers, winning over 88% of his games (38-5).
 
Ridder, the 2020 American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, 2021 AAC Championship Game Most Outstanding Player and 2018 AAC Rookie of the Year, led the Bearcats to an AAC Championship and the team's first New Year's Six appearance since 2009 last season.
 
The senior is also on the Watch Lists for the Manning, Maxwell, Unitas and Walter Camp awards this season and was named AAC Player of the Week and National QB of the Week after the Notre Dame win where he totaled 323 yards of total offense and accounted for three touchdowns. He was a 2020 finalist for the Manning Award and semifinalist for the Maxwell and O'Brien Awards.
 
The fan vote for the award begins Tuesday and round one of voting will run until Sunday, Nov. 7. Voting will take place on the Davey O'Brien Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.
