CINCINNATI – Two members of the University of Cincinnati track and field program earned weekly accolades from the American Athletic Conference, with Caisja Chandler being named this week's AAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Malin Smith being tabbed this weeks AAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, sweeping the women's awards.
BACK-TO-BACK
For the second week in a row, Chandler earned her spot as the AAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week. Chandler posted season-best marks at the South Carolina Invitational this past week in the 60m dash and 200m, placing third in both events against strong competition. Chandler, the school record holder in both events, continues to make her mark in the UC record books, she now owns nine of the top 10 spots on UC's all-time chart in the 200-meter and six of the top 10 in the 60m dash.
BREAKING THROUGH
Smith was tabbed the AAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week coming off career performance this past weekend at the South Carolina Invitational. Smith placed third in the shot put with a best heave of 16.17m (53-00.75), enough for a personal best, beating out her previous mark of 15.95m (52-4), and placing her No. 2 all time in the UC record book. Smith currently sits at No. 17 in the NCAA in women's shot put, and No. 1 in the AAC, with a separation of 1.2m from the current No. 2 spot.
