CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati football head coach Scott Satterfield announced on Tuesday the addition of several key transfer portal players.
With the transfer period in full swing, Cincinnati has now added eight players this offseason. Satterfield announced the addition of quarterback Brendan Sorsby on Dec. 7.
Highlighting the most recent group are defensive ends Mikah Coleman and George Gumbs, who add a combined 70 total tackles, 8.0 sacks, and 13 TFLs from last year to UC's defensive line. UC also increased its offensive firepower, bringing in all-purpose running back Evan Pryor and speedy wide receiver Tony Johnson.
Mikah Coleman, Defensive End, 6-5, 253
A native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Coleman had a breakout season in 2023 where he led Eastern Michigan in sacks (4.5) and tackles-for-loss (6.5), both career highs. The defensive end earned four starts and played in all 12 games, recording a career-high in total tackles with 38.
Coleman heads to Cincinnati with two years of eligibility and a career stat line of 50 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 9.5 TFLs in 28 games.
Evan Pryor, Running Back, 5-11, 198
The Cornelius, N.C., native Pryor, appeared in four games last season at Ohio State, rushing for 49 yards on 19 carriers. He had his best season in 2021 when he tallied 98 yards on 21 carries and one touchdown.
After spending the last three seasons as a Buckeye, he heads to Cincinnati with three years of eligibility remaining. Pryor was ranked as the nation's No. 2 all-purpose back coming out of high school in 2021 and will now bolster the UC backfield that ended the season fifth in the nation in rushing (217.1 pg).
George Gumbs, Defensive End, 6-4, 242
A native of Chicago, Ill., he spent his first two seasons at Northern Illinois as a tight end before switching to defensive end before the 2023 season. Gumbs shined in his new position, tallying 6.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks in his first season on defense. He ended the year with a total of 32 tackles and two forced fumbles.
He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Tony Johnson, Wide Receiver, 5-11, 180
The Ocala, Fla., native has a standout season at FAU last season, hauling in 37 passes for 411 yards and four touchdowns. He led the Owls in receiving three times last year and recorded his first career 100-yard game against USF (131 yards). He was also a 2023 Burlsworth Nominee – given to the nation's top player who began his career as a walk-on.
Johnson heads to Cincinnati with two years of eligibility and a career stat line of 60 receptions for 669 yards and seven touchdowns.
Ormanie Arnold, Defensive Back, 5-10, 175
A native of Long Beach, Calif., he started all 13 games for Idaho last season and recorded 33 tackles and two interceptions. He also totaled five pass breakups and a fumble recovery that he returned for a touchdown.
Arnold comes to Cincinnati with three years of eligibility left and three career interceptions, eight pass breakups, and 37 career tackles.
Kye Stokes, Safety, 6-1, 195
The Seffner, Fla., native joined his former Ohio State teammate Pryor in heading down from Columbus to Cincinnati. Stokes played in 11 games during his time as a Buckeye. During the 2022 season, he racked up 12 tackles and forced a fumble in eight games.
He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Jayden Perry, Long Snapper, 6-4, 225
A native of Savannah, Ga., Perry spent the last two seasons as Indiana State's primary long snapper and was perfect on all snap attempts during his career. Perry began his career at Coastal Carolina in 2019 before transferring to ISU in 2022.
He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
