CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team continues its three-match homestand with a midweek matchup against Akron on Tuesday. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Fifth Third Arena.
SERIES HISTORY
The Bearcats own a 10-2 all-time record against Akron. The two teams last met in 2009, resulting in a five-set win for the Bearcats.
LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati defeated rival Xavier in four sets on Thursday before sweeping Kent State in its home opener on Saturday. The sweep marked UC's fifth of the season, its most in non-conference play since 2019.
Junior Carly Glendinning averaged an impressive 4.57 kills per set at a .343 hitting percentage in a 2-0 week for the Bearcats. She ranked second in the Big 12 in kills (4.57) and third in points (5.07) for the week. Glendinning posted her first career 20-piece in UC's win over Xavier. She finished with a career- and match-high 21 kills at a .348 clip.
Defensively, libero Faith Frame averaged a conference-leading 5.14 digs per set last week. She posted a career-high 27 digs against Xavier. The 27 digs are the most for a four-set match in the Big 12 this season, and the third-most overall.
The Bearcats hit a season-best .416 versus Kent State. UC had only seven attacking errors on 101 attempts (49-7-101). Middle blockers Abby Walker and Zeta Washington did not commit an attacking error, combining for 13 kills on 20 attempts (.650). Washington, who missed the start of the season with a thumb injury, saw her first significant action on Saturday.
IN THE RANKINGS
The Bearcats rank third in the Big 12 and 36th in the nation in blocks per set (2.62). Individually, Walker ranks fifth in the category for the conference (1.23 blk/s) while Williams sits ninth (1.08 blk/s). Walker posted a career-high nine blocks in wins against both BGSU and Chicago State, tying her for ninth in the nation for blocks in a three-set match.
Glendinning ranks inside the top-10 in the league in kills per set (3.42 k/s, ninth) while Walker sits eighth in hitting percentage (.363).
Frame's big performance against Xavier moved her into sixth in the Big 12 in digs per set (4.15).
FRESHMEN FILLING ROLES
The Bearcats have a trio of freshmen playing key roles. Faith Frame has earned the libero jersey, while Fallon Stewart is starting as the outside hitter, with Lilly Gillespie coming in as a defensive specialist.
Frame, who is averaging 4.15 digs per set, has recorded 10-plus digs on four occasions. Stewart is third on the team in kills (2.75) and fifth in digs per set (1.38). She has posted double-digit kills in four matches, including back-to-back in wins over Xavier (16) and Kent State (10).
