Enjoy this folks, it's the final weekend without college football news flying at you. The month of August can be the most frustrating of the year. For me, it's like waiting in a long line to ride The Beast. You know it's going to be awesome, but standing in line is truly horrific. All you can do is think about how great it will be and do nothing about it.

I'll do my best to provide entertainment for your wait in line with plenty of info and interviews as soon as the team reports. Remember, if there are any particular questions or issues regarding players or anything at all you need answers to, feel free to send me an email (pauldehnerjr@gmail.com), a message on Twitter (@pauldehnerjr) or just leave a comment at the bottom of the blog.

I'll do my best to find out and get back to you as soon as possible.

Let's eat...

--- ESPN is running its Yards to Glory series on the defining plays of college football history by each yard. And sure enough, showing up at No. 29 was Tony Pike to Armon Binns. If you need me to remind you of what that play is, I will just tell you to never come back to this blog again.

However, just because I post this play whenever given a semblance of an excuse to do so, here it is one more time. Still won't forget it, this was my first assignment at CNati.com and first event I covered after moving back to the city from my newspaper gig in Georgia. Not a bad welcome back.

The other piece of information I remember about that game, that few people talk about anymore was Brian Kelly's decision to keep Tony Pike in the game. He was absolutely miserable during the first three quarters of the game. The Twitterazzi were all calling for Collaros. Shoot, I was as well. Seemed a no-brainer. But Brian Kelly stuck with Pike who produced the most memorable fourth quarter in UC football history. Turns out it was the final great decision of his brief UC career.

--- The preseason coaches poll was released yesterday with a Big East representative.

I've long been on board with the first polls of the season coming out Oct. 1. The early polls are so based on speculation, but do effect the national title race in many ways. If multiple teams are undefeated, whoever is ranked higher will have the upper hand in the BCS. Voters should have some content to review before making this type of important decision.

Anyway, here was some reaction from the Big East perspective. West Virginia came in at No. 27, USF No. 38 and Pitt No. 47.

--- K Jake Rogers put the extra point on that win at Pitt in 2009, but unfortunately was cut by the Saints yesterday. However, according to UC I-Team leader Tommy G, he hears Rogers may be latching on elsewhere. The way kickers rotate in the NFL, there is always an opportunity as long as you put some of your ability on tape. Rogers just needs to end up on a team for preseason games somewhere to catch the eyes of coaches when they start searching for kickers.

--- According to NFL reporter Adam Kaplan, Jason Kelce has started to push incumbent Jamaal Jackson at center. Love it. Guy will stick with the Eagles this year, at least on the practice squad if not better.

--- Tough break for DePaul as Barry Larkin's son Shane, one of Oliver Purnell's prized recruits, won't be attending the school this fall to be closer to his Orlando home due to a medical condition.

Larkin was at the top of the Demons class and will be missed as they try to climb out of the cellar.

--- Sure would have loved to see UC in the Maui Invitational this year. Man, what a field.

--- Apparently, the folks at UConn are pretty happy Randy Edsall left.

--- Boy, am I ever ready to have some player and coach interviews to post up here for you. Until then, we'll have to enjoy the randomness....

--- IFC premieres its new series "Whisker Wars" tonight. Yes, that's a reality show about competitive facial hair growing. I have to imagine because the show is about excessive facial hair isn't the only reason there won't be any women in the scenes.

And an interview with the show's star, Jack Passion.

--- Red Hot Chili Peppers
will be debuting their new CD in movie theaters. Like.

--- Why going on The Real World is the equivalent of imprisonment. Only, with many more conjugal visits.

--- Clooney. Put a nice little life together for himself.

--- Judging by EVERYONE'S FACEBOOK UPDATES, McCartney was amazing last night. Here was Hey Jude from somebody on the field. See you Monday.
