CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team played Seton Hall to a 1-1 tie on Senior Day this afternoon at rainy Gettler Stadium. Fittingly, 's lone goal was scored by senior Lauren Buland (, / Central). The Bearcats finish the 2005 season with a 3-11-4 overall record and a 1-8-2 ledger in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall ends its season at 7-7-4, 3-3-3 in 3-6-2 in the conference.

Seton Hall scored first on Mary Ronau's fourth goal of the season in the sixth minute. Katie Pfister played the ball into the box and after deflecting off a UC defender, Ronau hooked a shot past goalkeeper Sherry Slye (/Roger Bacon) and into the upper left corner of the net.

Buland answered for the Bearcats just over a minute later when she scored her first goal of 2005. Buland banged home a loose ball in the Seton Hall box for her third career goal, knotting the match at 1-1.

Seton Hall outshot the Bearcats, 17-14, in the match, but UC had the better scoring opportunities. Early in the second half, SHU's Ashley Reinecke received a yellow card and on the ensuing free kick, Kristin May (Hudson, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) put her header off the crossbar and the rebound shot by Kate Norton (Rector, Pa./Greenburg Central Catholic) bounced off the post before being cleared by the Pirates. Just minutes later, May sent a perfect cross into the box and onto the foot of Lindsey Noteboom (/Birdville). Noteboom knocked the pass into the back of the net, but was whistled for being offsides, wiping off the go-ahead goal.

The teams would play 103 scoreless minutes following Buland's goal, finishing with each squad's fourth tie of the season.

"I'm proud of our seniors," head coach Meridy Glenn said. "They played great today. You could tell the team was playing for them. They should feel really good about their careers here, on and off the field."

Each of Cincinnati's six seniors started the match, with Buland, Jamie Clark (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville), Jen Leiter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Univ. of Florida), Ashley Roush (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto), Slye, and Marie Strelka (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) being honored prior to kickoff.
