CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati men's track and field team has added six student athletes to its 2008 recruiting class. Kyle Borton (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon), Mario Cannon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Lutheran East), Adam Chambers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este), Mike Foley (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont), William Johnson (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East), Jordan McPherson (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), and Brian Zimmerman (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) will join fall signees Troy Cooper (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart), Eric Finan (New Richmond, Ohio/New Richmond) and Kyle Lang (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) to continue their academic and athletic careers at UC.

Three state champions and a national champion highlight the spring signees. Foley won the 2007 outdoor state championship in the high jump with a personal best of 6' 9" at the championships. McPherson dominated the 2007 state meets, coming home with a pair of indoor championships, an outdoor title and two runner-up finishes. He owns a personal-best of 6'11" in the high jump and 23'8" in the long jump and was also part of the indoor national-champion shuttle hurdle relay team and a third-place finisher in the pentathlon at the indoor national championships. Johnson, a Lakota East graduate, was the 2006 state champion in the 800 meters.

Borton was a two-time top 10 finisher in the shot put at the state championships. He finished fourth in 2006 and followed with a sixth-place finish in 2007. Cannon, a National Honor Roll member, placed third in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 400 hurdles at the AAU National Championships.

Chambers, a Glen Este grad, finished third in the shot put at the 2007 Indoor State Championships and placed fifth in the shot at the 2007 Outdoor State Championships. He also finished eighth in the shot at the 2007 Indoor National Championships. Zimmerman, the only non-Ohioan in the spring class, is a Cincinnatus Scholarship recipient and his 194' 2" personal best in the javelin would rank in UC's top 10.

The fall signees had successful seasons throughout 2006-07 and added to their lengthy resumes. Cooper is now a three-time Kentucky state champion in the shot put and discus. He also won a state championship and earned MVP for the Bishop Brossart basketball team. Finan, a Cincinnatus Scholarship recipient, was the state runner-up in the 3200 meters this spring, while Lang finished 10th at the state cross country championships in the fall, improving six places over his finish in 2005.

"The spring signees, combined with the outstanding fall class, comprise one of our best recruiting classes ever," said head coach Bill Schnier. "All event areas are represented, continuing our tradition of a balanced track and field team."
