CINCINNATI - After weeks of intense competition, "Bearcat" has clinched one of two spots in Championship Round of the Capital One National Mascot of the Year competition. Bearcat needs you, members of the Bearcat Nation, to help in this battle for mascot supremacy against "Bill the Goat" from the US Naval Academy.
Voting for the Championship Round began on November 30, 2009 at 9 a.m. and will end on December 14, 2009 at 8:59 a.m. Fans can vote daily at www.capitalonebowl.com to help the Bearcat bring the coveted championship to Cincinnati.
The twelve members of the Capital One All-America Mascot Team were selected from among the mascot entries received from the 242 eligible NCAA Division IA and Division IAA schools that featured a football team.
Each school that was selected as a member of the Capital One All-America Mascot Team was awarded $5,000, for use in scholarships and funding of its school's mascot program. The National Mascot of the Year will receive an additional $15,000, a total of $20,000, for its school's mascot program. The mascot with the most votes at the end of the Championship Round will be the Capital One National Mascot of the Year. The winning mascot will be announced during the 2010 Capital One Bowl on Friday, January 1, 2010 and will be named The Capital One National Mascot of the Year.
