University of Cincinnati redshirt junior Blake Hamilton carded a 1-over par 74-71=145 on Monday and is tied with four other players for 14th place after two rounds of play at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship at the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.

Hamilton posted par scores on 12 holes to go with two birdies in the morning's opening round. He followed with six birdies and seven par scores during the afternoon's second round. Hamilton's second-round 1-under 71 tied a season low, matching his second-round performance at the Fossum Memorial on Oct. 5.

"Blake did some really good things today," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "He's starting to show signs of becoming a more consistent player. He just needs to take his time on Tuesday and have a good final round."

Teammates Emerson Newsome (76-73=149) and Jared O'Kelley (74-75=149) are tied with five other players for 35th place.

South Alabama's Peter Staalbo leads the 84-player field at 5-under 69-70=139.

As a team, the Bearcats are 12th in the 17-team field following a two-round 21-over 301-296=597. McNeese State leads the event at 4-under 289-283=572.

"We have struggled the last few weeks to get off to a good start," Martin said. "We continue to make mistakes at key moments that prevent us from climbing in the standings. We'll keep plugging away though and find a way to improve."

Final-round action begins Tuesday with a shot-gun start at 9:30 ET. Live scoring is available at birdiefire.com.
