Football Faces No. 8 Michigan Saturday In The Big House
The University of Cincinnati football team makes its first trip to Michigan Stadium Saturday, taking on the No. 8 Wolverines at noon in a game airing on ABC, 700 WLW AM and TuneIn.com. Both teams are 1-0 after UC knocked off Austin Peay on Thursday, Aug. 31 at Nippert Stadium and Michgan beat Florida at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Saturday, Sept. 2.

THE SERIES
Cincinnati (1885) and Michigan (1879) rank among the oldest programs in college football, but Saturday marks their first meeting on the gridiron.

THE COACHES
Ohio native Luke Fickell was named the 42nd Football Head Coach at the University of Cincinnati in December 2017.Fickell took the reins of the Bearcats program after spending 15 years at his alma mater, Ohio State. An experienced 18-year coaching veteran at the FBS level, Fickell was a part of nine Big Ten Conference titles (seven as a coach, two as a player) and two national championship squads with 15 postseason games and 12 NFL Draft selections under his belt.

Jim Harbaugh is in his third season at the University of Michigan. The 20th coach school history, he is the sixth former U-M football player to lead the Wolverines. Prior to taking the Michigan job, Harbaugh spent four years as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers (2011-14), four years at Stanford (2007-10) and four years at San Diego (2004-06).

  • The University of Cincinnati football team plays its 130th season in 2017. The program dates to 1885 and is one of the 10 oldest in major college football. 
  • UC has won a league title in five of the last 10 seasons and played in a bowl game nine time in the past 11 years. 
  • The Bearcats' 94 wins over the last 10 years rank among the top-20 teams in the NCAA FBS.
  • UC's .669 winning percentage since 2007 ranks among the Top-20 teams in the NCAA FBS, winning at least nine games seven times in the last 11 years.
  • The Bearcats returned to Nippert Stadium in 2015 after a 20 month, $86-million renovation and drew 222,578 fans in the first year back at Nippert Stadium, a single-season record average of 37, 096. 
  • The Oct. 24, 2015 attendance of 40,124 was the largest in Nippert Stadium history. The previous stadium record was 40,101 set on Oct. 1 against Miami (Fla.).
  • UC has won back-to-back American Athletic Conference FB Team Academic Excellence Awards in 2015 & 2016.
  • UC started 2017 with a pair of takeaways (1 INT, 1 FR) and a sack after closing 2016 with 24 takeaways (17 INT/7 FR) and 21 sacks after forcing only 14 takeaways (9 INT/5 FR) and 13 sacks during the 2015 season.
  • UC had 18 players take the field for the first time during the season opener against Austin Peay.
  • Almost sixty-nine percent of UC's roster (77 of 112) is made of up freshmen, RS freshmen and sophomores.
  • With its trip to Michigan Stadium on Saturday, UC will have played games in the top five venues by capacity in college football. Michigan Stadium (107,601 - 2017) tops the list followed by Penn State's Beaver Stadium (106,572 - 2005), Ohio State's Ohio Stadium (104,944, 2014), Texas A&M's Kyle Field (102,733, 1971) and Tennessee's Neyland Stadium (102,455 - 2011).
  • After missing the final three-plus games of 2016, RB Mike Boone made a strong return in the season opener, running for 100 yards and a TD on 19 carries in his first game as a feature back, his sixth career 100-yard game and UC's first since Nov. 14, 2015.
  • Boone's three-yard rushing TD in the fourth quarter against Austin Peay snapped a skid of 500+ minutes between UC rushing TDs.
  • WR Thomas Geddis has hauled in a TD pass from QB Hayden Moore in two-straight games dating to 2016.
  • UC's top-8 tacklers against APSU, Malik Clements (18), Perry Young (17), Jaylyin Minor (10), Linden Stephens (6), Kevin Mouhon (6), Kimoni Fitz (6), Joel Dublanko (5) and Bryan Wright (5) all set or tied career highs.
  • Wright, a DE, hauled in his first career interception just before halftime, picking off the APSU QB near the goal line.
