Ten Student-Athletes Earn Degrees at Summer Commencement

Ten University of Cincinnati student-athletes received their degrees during Summer Commencement ceremonies that were held Friday, August 4, at BB&T Arena on the Northern Kentucky University campus.

CINCINNATI - Ten University of Cincinnati student-athletes received their degrees during Summer Commencement ceremonies that were held Friday, August 4, at BB&T Arena on the Northern Kentucky University campus.

Football was represented by five individuals, including the pair of Carter Jacobs and Chris Murphy, both of whom will play for the Bearcats during the 2017 season. Also graduating were 2016-17 seniors Bryce Jenkinson and Tshumbi Johnson and former standout Tony Pike.

The men's track & field/cross country program saw three of its own graduate, including Jordan Hardiman, Jarrod Hart and Tevin-Lloyd Thompson, all of whom competed last season.

The remaining two graduates included Zack Tobler from men's basketball and Harley Hutchison from tennis.

All told, 95 Bearcats student-athletes earned degrees during the 2016-17 academic year. The Fall 2016 Commencement (December) saw 15 Bearcats graduate before 70 more received their degrees at the Spring 2017 Commencement (April).

In the past five academic years (2012-13 through 2016-17), 449 Bearcats have earned their degrees with an average of 90 student-athletes graduating each year. After seeing nearly 86 degrees attained in the first three years, that average has jumped to 96 degrees each academic year with 97 earned last year to go along with the 95 earned this year.
