CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati offensive lineman Korey Cunningham was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Cunningham, a native of Montevallo, Alabama, was the 36th pick of the seventh round, the 254th overall draft pick and the Cardinals final selection of the draft. He was one of 18 American Athletic Conference players chosen over the three-day draft.
It's the third-straight year a former Bearcats player was tabbed in the NFL Draft and the second time the Cardinals have made a UC pick. Former OL Trevor Canfield was Arizona's seventh-round pick in 2009, also the 254th overall selection.
A Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference selection in 2017, Cunningham was one of UC's senior tri-captains. He closed his career out starting 24-straight games at left tackle and racked up 33 career appearances. He anchored an offensive line that gave up nine less sacks than it did a year ago, ranking in the top half of the league.
Cunningham arrived at UC in 2013 as a 220-pound tight end and through hard work and dedication, worked his way into a 315-pound offensive lineman. He earned a bachelor's degree in health education in April 2017 and took home the Bearcats' Jim Kelly Spirit Award at the team's postseason senior awards banquet. Following the 2017 campaign, he was selected to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
