TicketsCINCINNATI –The University of Cincinnati track and field team continued competition at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium Thursday as the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas at the Texas State Track & Field Complex also got underway.
Sam Meece won the discus throw at the Bobcat Invitational, outpacing the field with a personal-best toss of 53.73m. Meece bettered his previous PR of 53.45m, set a year ago. It is the sixth-best UC effort of all time and the third-best throw in the American Athletic Conference this outdoor season.
Annette Echikunwoke returned to action after redshirting the 2018 season outdoors. The former NCAA Champion was 12th in the hammer throw with a best toss of 59.75m. She is scheduled to compete in the hammer throw at the Bobcat Invitational on Friday afternoon, followed by the shot put at the Texas Relays on Saturday afternoon.
Kylie Cutlip clocked 1:02.85 in the hurdles in her first outdoor event. She placed 33rd in a stacked field.
Hannah Markel just missed a PR in the 5,000m, but grabbed a Top-10 finish with her 9th-place clocking of 17:23.44.
Angelica Lightfoot (4,372 pts) and Naomi Urbano (4,642 pts) wrapped up the heptathlon competition at the Texas Relays, placing 16th and 21st, respectively. Urbano put together the stronger day-two effort with 1,791 points to 1,615 for Lightfoot.
Friday features a 10 a.m. ET start for the field events in Austin with the discus (Meece), long jump (Irati Mitxelena), pole vault (Brooke Catherine), women's shot put (Leah Heckaman), men's shot put (Marcus Abraham and Meece) and men's (Andre Wright) and women's (Mitxelena) triple jump occurring in order. Texas Relays running events start at 10:35 a.m. ET with the 4x100m relay, followed by the 110m hurdles (Arthur Greenlee), women's 100m (Haisha Bisiolu & Caisja Chandler), men's 100m (Mykel Chambers & Quincy Mitchell) and the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
Over in San Marcos, field events start the day at 2 p.m. ET with the women's hammer (Echikunwoke), followed by the women's long jump (Kennedy Marable), men's high jump (Albert Kalala), men's pole vault (Austin Goolsby & Nicholas Lauria), men's long jump (Brandon White) and the men's hammer throw (Abraham & Meece) at 6:30 p.m. ET. On track, Faith Banks and Cutlip will start things off at 7:25 p.m. ET in the 400m dash, followed by the men's 3,000m steeplechase (Toni Banos) and women's 5,000m (Katrina Patterson).
OTHER WEEKEND EVENTS
Along with the action in Austin and San Marcos, UC will also compete at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California and Cedarville's Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open.
