HOUSTON, Texas – University of Cincinnati baseball fell 3-1 at Houston Friday night to even the series.
 
Evan Shawver posted another fine start, going 7.0 innings with three runs, five hits and eight strikeouts. After giving up two runs on two hits in the first, he did not give up another hit until the fifth.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC is now 18-20 overall and 8-6 in conference
• Houston moves to 23-16 and 7-7
• Eric Santiago went 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with a double, walk and RBI
• Wyatt Stapp also went 2-for-4 and Jeremy Johnson finished 2-for-3 with a walk
• A.J. Kullman threw in relief of Shawver, going one inning with no runs and no hits

Houston struck early on a walk, double and single
Top of the 5th
• The Bearcats were able to get a run back in the fifth, starting with a single and stolen base by A.J. Bumpass. Johnson followed with a walk before Santiago hit Bumpass home on a base hit
Bottom of the 8th
• The Cougars were able to get one run in the eighth. Two singles and a hit batter loaded the bases before a ground out recorded the first out of the frame and a run to come home. After an intentional walk loaded the bases again, Kullman worked out of the jam with no further damage. The Bearcats put two runners on in the eighth and ninth but could not plate any more runs

• The final game of the series is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. EST. It is a league-wide off day on Sunday
• UC returns home to Marge Schott Stadium with games on Tuesday and Wednesday as the Bearcats host Louisville and Eastern Kentucky
