BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – In an exciting, back-and-forth match, University of Cincinnati men's soccer outlasted the Bowling Green Falcons, 4-3, on Saturday night in overtime at Cochrane Stadium.
The Bearcats (2-5) pushed the match to overtime against the Falcons (4-2-1) with under a minute to play in regulation when junior Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) deposited the equalizer to bring the score to 3-3. UC wasted no time in the extra period, drawing a foul just outside the box where senior Donovan Segree (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Daytona State) sent a free kick into the BGSU wall, but rebounded it and put it into the corner of the net in the 92nd minute to send his team home victorious.
The Red & Black scored the opening goal of the match when junior Shevon Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College/Daytona State), in the fourth minute, scored his first goal of the year. The home team answered minutes later with a penalty-kick score to even things up in the 15th minute. The Falcons added on in the 18th minute, but saw UC battle back to tie the game at 2-2 in the 36th minute with junior Creggton Charlton's (Clarendon, Jamaica/Clarendon College/Daytona State) third goal of 2019. As such, the match was knotted at two at halftime.
After an even opening 10 minutes of the second half, BGSU went up 3-2 in the 58th minute. Searching for the equalizer over the duration of the second half, UC cashed in late when senior Aerin West (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) received a ball from distance just outside the box and pushed it ahead to Commisiong who tied the match during the 90th minute. The Red & Black continued the momentum into overtime, finding the game-winning score just minutes in.
On the night, UC edged the Falcons, 20-18, in shots, with both recording seven on target. Charlton and freshman Sam Robinson (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda) both paced the Bearcats offense with a pair of tries on goal. Junior goalkeeper Noah Lawrence (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Sacred Heart) was solid between the pipes with four saves to bring his season total to 24.
