TicketsCINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati volleyball Head Coach Molly Alvey has released the team's 2021 schedule, featuring three matches against 2020 NCAA Tournament opponents and eleven home matches at Fifth Third Arena.
Fans' first chance to see the 2021 Bearcats in Fifth Third Arena will be Saturday, August 21 in an exhibition game against Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. The last time the Bearcats faced Pittsburgh, it was December of 2019 in the second round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. The Bearcats took down the No. 6 seed and then ranked No. 2 Panthers in five competitive sets to earn a trip to the Sweet 16. It was by far the biggest win in program history.
The official season starts off in the tri-state area up at the University of Dayton. UC will face Dayton and Texas State on Friday, August 27 and will end the weekend facing Kentucky, the reigning 2020 NCAA Tournament Champions, on Saturday, August 28. The host Flyers were also a 2020 NCAA Tournament team, making it to the second round.
The following weekend, UC will travel to South Bend, Indiana for matches with Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Notre Dame, and Bowling Green from Friday, September 3 through Sunday, September 5. Bowling Green is coming off a 2020 NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Bearcats return to Cincinnati to host local rival Xavier on Thursday, September 16 at 6:30 p.m. before heading up to Oxford, Ohio on Saturday, September 18 to take on the Miami Redhawks.
AAC play will begin on the road when the Bearcats face USF on Friday, September 24 at 7 p.m. UC will stay in Florida to take on UCF in Orlando on Sunday, September 26 at 1 p.m.
UC returns home Friday, October 1 and Sunday, October 3 to host Memphis and SMU, respectively. The team then travels for a Wednesday evening road matchup at ECU October 6 to then return and finish the weekend off at home against Temple on Sunday, October 10.
The next few weeks, the Bearcats trade-off home and road weekends. They start on the road, heading to Tulsa on Friday, October 15 at 8 p.m. and then travel just north to Wichita State for a Sunday afternoon matchup on October 17.
The Bearcats return home the weekend of October 22 to host Houston Friday night at 6:30 pm. and Tulane Sunday, October 24 at 1 p.m. They then head south next to play at SMU Friday, October 29 and play Memphis in a halloween-day matchup Sunday, October 31. The Bearcats host the Florida schools UCF and USF in Fifth Third Arena Friday, November 5 and Sunday, November 7, respectively. They then travel south again to face Tulane on Friday, November 12 and Houston Sunday, November 14.
The Bearcats will play three of their final four regular season matches at home. The three-game home stretch starts with Wichita State at 6:30 p.m. Friday, November 19. They then host Tulsa and East Carolina November 21 and 24, respectively. Both games are scheduled for 1 p.m. The regular season will conclude on the road at Temple Friday, November 26 at 1 p.m.
The first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament are scheduled for December 2-4. This year's finals will be held in Columbus, Ohio December 16 and 18.
