McElroy Qualifies for 400m Finals, Collins Places 7th in Long Jump at U20 Championships

University of Cincinnati track and field's Steven McElroy won his heat in the 400-meter dash on Friday and will compete for a spot at the World Championships on Saturday at 7:25 p.m. ET.

EUGENE, Ore. – University of Cincinnati track and field's Steven McElroy won his heat in the 400-meter dash on Friday and will compete for a spot at the World Championships on Saturday at 7:25 p.m. ET at Hayward Field at the USATF U20 Championships.
 
Nadia Collins also placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.60m (18-04.5) on Friday at the national championship event.
 
McElroy, the indoor and outdoor American Athletic Conference champion in the 400 this year, ran a time of 46.85 to easily win the first heat of the 400m on Friday. He had the third fastest time of the day. The top two in the event finals on Saturday will qualify for July's U20 world championships. He will also be in the mix to make the United States' U20 4x400m relay team.
 
Cincinnati's Kennedy Marable and Annika Kinley will also compete on Saturday in Eugene, Ore. Marable will compete at the senior nationals in the triple jump on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET, while Kinley will look to place high in the high jump at the U20 championships at 7:15 p.m. ET.
