CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati men's and women's tennis head coach Dave Power passed away on Wednesday.

He coached the Bearcats' men from 1987 to 1996, and the women from 1987 to 1991.  He won 89 matches as the head coach at UC.

Among the many players he coached at UC was current Cincinnati women's tennis coach Eric Toth

"Dave was an elite player and coach," Toth said. "His professional credentials speak for themselves. I am most grateful for the opportunity Dave gave myself, my teammates, and all other men's tennis players that followed during Coach Power's time here at UC. Dave created quite a tight knit fraternity of men's tennis players here at UC that remain very close to this day. I know everyone that represents Bearcats' Tennis and those in the Cincinnati Tennis community wish Dave's wife, Eileen, and the Power family nothing but the very best during this difficult time."

Power was a teaching professional in the Cincinnati area for most of his adult life, including serving as the head tennis professional at Kenwood Country Club and operating the Dave Power Tennis School.

He was a two-time All-American tennis player at Indiana. He advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open in double in 1967 and to the third round of the U.S. Open in singles in 1966.

He was inducted into the Cincinnati Tennis Hall of Fame in 2007.
