Bearcats Fall to Commodores, 14-9

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Cincinnati lacrosse team fell to Vanderbilt, 14-9, on Saturday at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Field.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Cincinnati lacrosse team fell to Vanderbilt, 14-9, on Saturday at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Field.

The Bearcats (10-5, 2-4) started strong with senior Ava Goeller nailing the back of the net within the first 15 seconds of play. Vanderbilt quickly responded with a goal from Kemper Robinson.
 
Back-to-back goals from sophomore Camryn Callaghan and freshman Hailey Joy Simpson gave UC a 3-1 lead midway through the first quarter.
 
Goeller drilled one into the cage to start the second quarter, extending the Bearcats lead to 5-3. The Commodores won the draw control which led to another goal from Robinson.
 
A goal by Vanderbilt's Cate Bradley gave the Commodores a 6-5 lead before Cincinnati senior Grace Jenny grabbed herself a goal to tie things up heading into the break.
 
Jenny notched a second goal before Vanderbilt jumped out to a 9-7 lead to open the second half. Goeller found the back of the net for the third time, shortening the score difference to just one.
 
The Commodores went on a 4-1 scoring run to extend their lead and secure the victory.
