CINCINNATI – Cincinnati football head coach Scott Satterfield met with the media after practice on Thursday and announced that redshirt sophomore Brendan Sorsby has won the starting quarterback job.
Sorsby joined the program this offseason as a transfer from Indiana.
"It was great watching these guys compete all spring and summer, but after studying everything we could throughout spring ball and fall camp we've decided that Brenden Sorsby will be our starter," Satterfield said. "He has worked hard to learn the offense, and he's made a lot of plays. I think he has earned the respect of his teammates, which is huge. There are so many little things that go into being the starter, and I think Brendan has handled himself well. He has a quiet confidence about himself but he shows humility too, which I like in a quarterback."
Sorsby played two seasons with the Hoosiers and threw for 1,587 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2023. The Denton, Texas native made seven starts at Indiana and added production on the ground as well as through the air. He rushed for 286 yards and four TDs last season, including 151 yards over the final three games of the year.
He had a career-best three touchdown passes on three occasions last season, all of which came on the road at Penn State, Purdue, and Illinois. Sorsby also ran for two scores in the win at Illinois.
With Sorsby under center, the Bearcats will face Towson in their first game of the season on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Nippert Stadium.
