Rich Wall joined the University of Cincinnati soccer staff prior to the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach.
Wall, a former collegiate head coach at Lees-McRae College in North Carolina, comes to UC after spending 2019 as an assistant coach at Ball State.
His year in Muncie saw Wall help the Cardinals win a program-record 15 matches and finish second in the Mid-American Conference standings. Wall aided in the coaching of four All-MAC performers, two all-region honorees and 13 Academic All-MAC honorees in 2019.
Wall arrived at Ball State after four seasons as the head coach of the men’s soccer team at Lees-McRae College in North Carolina. Wall compiled a record of 35-33-5 with the Bobcats and led them to a pair of 11-win seasons while climbing as high as No. 12 in the national rankings. During the four seasons he coached two Conference Carolinas Player of the Years, the 2017 Conference Carolinas Freshmen of the Year, and 2015 Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year. The program garnered the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award each year and had 28 student-athletes earn Conference Carolinas All-Academic honors. In 2018, Wall was also honored by the United Soccer Coaches by being named to the “30 Under 30 Program,” which recognizes the top rising coaches in the profession.
Prior to joining Lees-McRae, Wall spent time as a coach in USL League Two as an assistant with Tri-Cities FC Otters and the head coach of West Virginia United. He helped West Virginia reach the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup during one of his two seasons with the team. Wall has also spent time coaching youth soccer, including a stint with the North Carolina Olympic Development Program.
Wall spent the 2014-2015 season as the men’s soccer assistant coach at Brevard College. He was the director for recruitment of student-athletes, developed session plans for the first team and reserve team training, built scouting reports and spearheaded the travel and recruiting budget.
During a four-month stint in Harrison, N.J., Wall was a training programs coach at the New York Red Bull Academy and was in charge of team training U5-U14 boys and girls for the Plainedge Soccer Club as well as ball mastery sessions for U7-U13. He led spring camps and clinics in the Long Island region.
From Jan. 2013 to March 2014, Wall served as the men’s soccer assistant coach at Belmont Abbey College and the associate director of coaching for U11-U14 boys at Waxhaw Soccer Club.
In 2012, he was the director of soccer operations for the men’s soccer squad at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Wall played collegiately at Gardner-Webb University and Wingate University in North Carolina and saw action in 70 matches. Wall graduated from Gardner-Webb with a bachelor’s degree in sport management and has earned his United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma along with a Goalkeeper Level II certification. He also claimed a National B License with the United States Soccer Federation and is currently pursuing the USSF A-Senior License.
He and his wife Jessica are expecting their first child in June 2021.
