CINCINNATI, Ohio -- University of Cincinnati center Rod Flowers has announced that he will transfer to Tennessee State to continue his basketball career, but only after he completes his undergraduate degree.

"When I came here, my goals were to have a good basketball career and earn my degree," stated Flowers, a 6-8, 235-pound forward from Huntsville, Ala. "I feel I've improved as a player and I'm going to get my degree this summer. (Transferring to) Tennessee State will allow me to get more playing time."

A reserve his first two seasons as a Bearcat, Flowers was one of three players who alternated at the center position last season. He averaged 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds.

Flowers, who is expected to complete his bachelor's in social sciences at the end of the second summer session, will pursue a master's at Tennessee State. He will be eligible for the 2004-05 season.

"We are pleased with Rod's efforts, on and off the court, during his time here," stated UC head coach Bob Huggins. "He is the epitome of the term student-athlete. We wish him the best."
