MUNCIE, Ind. - Sophomore Joe Kastelic (Newton, N.C./Fred T. Foard) shot an opening-round 71 to lead the University of Cincinnati in the first round at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at the Delaware Country Club on Monday (Sept. 22).
Kastelic finished the first round at one over par to sit in a tie for seventh, while senior Alberto Fernandez (Gijorn, Spain/La Corolla) and sophomore Jarryd Lentz (Monroe, Ohio/Fenwick) each carded a 73, good for a tie for 20th.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bearcats were sophomore Nick Proud (Middletown, Ohio/Lakota East) and Kurt Harris (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), who each fired opening-round 76s and tied for 43rd.
Bowling Green leads the team competition with a round of 284, four over par. Eastern Kentucky and Ball State totalled 290 to tie for second, while Ball State's B team and IUPUI tied for fourth with rounds of 291.
The second round, scheduled for Monday, was postponed due to darkness. The second round will be completed on Tuesday morning, immediately followed by the final round.
