DAYTON, Ohio - With the University of Cincinnati's 5-2 win at Dayton in the season opener on Sept. 1, head coach Hylton Dayes moved into second place on the UC wins list with his 73rd career victory.

Dayes is 73-63-21 in his ninth year at Cincinnati.

He was tied with Jim McDowell at 72 wins heading into the 2009 campaign with Dayton and its 20-match home winning streak standing in the way of win No. 73.

The Bearcats jumped to an early 2-0 lead and repelled the Dayton push in the second half to give Dayes his benchmark win.

Bob Muro, who led the Bearcats from 1984-1995, holds the UC wins mark at 114.

Dayes and the Bearcats open the home portion of the 2009 season on Friday, Sept. 4, against Canisius at 7 p.m. in Gettler Stadium.
