Garman Selected in 17th Round of 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft

CINCINNATI - On Day 2 of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, University of Cincinnati senior pitcher Brian Garman (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wapakoneta) was selected with the 14th pick of the 17th round (pick 519) by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Garman was a third-team all-BIG EAST Conference performer for the Bearcats in 2010 and made 17 appearances, including five starts. He completed 59.1 innings, struck out a single-season personal-best 65 batters, walked just 19, and finished with a 3.79 ERA that ranked eighth in the BIG EAST.

Garman tossed his first career complete game against West Virginia on April 30, giving up one earned run and striking out a career-high nine batters en route to the win.

Including Garman, Cincinnati has had a left-handed pitcher selected in the draft for its third consecutive season after Dan Osterbrock was taken by the Minnesota Twins in 2008 and senior Kevin Johnson was selected by the Florida Marlins in 2009.
