Football Returns Home To Matchup With Rutgers
Two of the oldest college football programs will square off Saturday at Nippert Stadium when Rutgers travels to Nippert Stadium to face Cincinnati. Rutgers (1869) and UC (1885) have both been playing football since the mid to late 1800's. The Bearcats are looking to snap their first three-game losing streak since 2005. UC head coach Butch Jones was a graduate assistant for the Scarlet Knights from 1990-92, his first collegiate coaching job.
THE SERIES
Cincinnati and Rutgers meet for the 16th time Saturday with the all-time series tied at 7-7-1. UC has won the past four meetings, including a 13-10 decision at Nippert Stadium two years ago, and five of the last seven. The Bearcats opened up the 2009 season with a 47-15 win over the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, N.J. UC has a three-game Nippert Stadium winning streak over the Scarlet Knights and a 5-1-1 home-field advantage in the all-time series.
THE COACHES
Butch Jones, named the head coach at the University of Cincinnati on Dec. 16, 2009, is in his first season at the helm of the UC program and is 3-6. Jones most recently led Central Michigan University to a pair of Mid-American Conference Championships and three-straight bowl appearances. He holds a 30-19 overall record and a 21-6 mark in league games.
GREG SCHIANO is in his 10th season as the head coach at Rutgers with a 59-60 record. He is 1-4 against UC all-time.
A LOOK AHEAD
UC faces a road test at Connecticut (Nov. 27), and a Senior Day game with Pittsburgh (Dec. 4) to close out the regular season.
