The University of Cincinnati had 179 student-athletes named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team on Wednesday, as announced by the league office.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the American's 10 member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in an American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
Baseball led the way for all men's programs with 22 selections. Ty Neal's club not only had the most honorees on the men's side but also achieved the highest percentage of student-athletes represented with 71 percent of their roster listed on the All-Academic Team.
Women's track & field tallied the most honorees on the women's side with 25, but it was women's golf that had 100 percent of their roster on the list with all 11 players receiving the league accolade.
The overall list of Bearcats by sport includes 22 baseball players, one men's basketball player, three women's basketball players, five men's cross country runners, eight women's cross country runners, four men's golfers, 11 women's golfers, 13 men's soccer players, 18 women's soccer players, 17 men's swimmers and divers, 20 women's swimmers and divers, eight women's tennis players, 18 men's track & field athletes, 25 women's track & field athletes and six volleyball players.
Football's All-Academic Team selections were announced the past February, and the Bearcats had 20 student-athletes on that list.
