Box Score

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team was edged by the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Gettler Stadium.

Coming off a quick turnaround following a 2-1 double-overtime home loss to Wright State on Friday, the Bearcats welcomed the Red Flash who dropped a 3-0 decision at Dayton on Friday. UC had an early scoring opportunity in the 11th minute when freshman David Sanz (Santander, Spain/IE La Marina) crossed the ball from the left into the box where sophomore Austin Smythe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day/Radford) offered a quality header which was saved by SFU's goalkeeper Marcus Rojas. The Red Flash later added a goal to take a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. The Bearcats played on the defensive, for the most part, for the remainder of the half.

UC continued to try to thwart the Red Flash's attack for the beginning of the second half before getting another solid chance at a goal. At the 63rd-minute mark, Sanz fielded a ball on the right and sent it into the middle of the field just outside the box where senior Nick Melville (Portland, Maine/Cheverus/Iowa Western) blasted a kick that was saved, again, by Rojas. The Bearcats' final legitimate scoring opportunity came in the 72nd minute when sophomore Adam Wilson (Auchterarder, Scotland/Dollar Academy) fired a free kick from in front of the goal and outside the box that struck the right post and went out of bounds. Late efforts to even up the match came up short as UC fell, 1-0.
