CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati tennis team traveled to Murfreesboro, Tenn., over the weekend and fared well in the 2017 ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships hosted by Middle Tennessee State with all three Bearcats doubles teams advancing to the third round of the main draw to lead the way in the final fall event of 2017. The event, which ran October 12-15, saw six Bearcats take the courts in singles while also joining forced in doubles play as well.
"Competing against the very best teams in the region, our quality of play was what I hoped it would be going in," Head Coach Eric Toth said. "We have played very good doubles all Fall and I am glad it carried over into this event. We earned victories over some really good programs and played very well even in defeat. Singles was much of the same. Ioana and Emma's efforts definitely stand out, but we had other opportunities to advance in the draw where we just came up a little short. I am happy where our team is at as we exit Fall competition. We have gotten in a lot of match play in a very short period of time. I feel our young players understand that you have to mentally and physically be at a high level every time you step on the court if you are going to get the job done on a particular day. We are poised to be successful when our season begins in January. We will have to respect every single opponent we take the court against. No one should scare us too much either. It promises to be an exciting 2018 season for this group."
// SINGLES RECAP
Newcomers Emma Miceli and Ioana Guna continued to impress as the both advanced to the third round of the main draw with a pair of wins in the early stages before suffering defeat.
