CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati men's soccer student-athletes are continuing to progress over the summer in competition with a number of developmental clubs.
Highlighted among the competing players is a group in action with six different teams in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), Premier Development League (PDL), as well as with a Major League Soccer (MLS) academy.
The Bearcats trio of Austin Smythe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day/Radford), Ryan Melink (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland), and Noah Lawrence (Mitchellville, Md.) are each contributing for the local Cincinnati Dutch Lions (CDLFC) of the PDL. Smythe has scored three goals in six games to move into third place all-time in scoring for the club, while also being selected for TopDrawerSoccer's PDL Central Conference Team of the Week on June 20. Melink has appeared in nine games with two goals and an assist, while also being named to TopDrawerSoccer's PDL Central Conference Team of the Week on July 5. Lawrence, in his first summer with CDLFC, has played in two matches – including a start – and has logged 90 minutes of play. He also participated in exhibitions, with a pair of starts, prior to the beginning of the season. Also in the PDL, Peyton Mowery (Troy, Ohio/Troy) has helped lead the Great Lakes Division-leading Dayton Dutch Lions to a record of 7-2-3.
Strong showings are continuing for the Bearcats in the NPSL and UPSL. Sean Clarke (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) has tallied two goals for FC Baltimore, a team that has clinched the regular season championship in the NPSL Mid-Atlantic Division at 7-2-1. Cameron Panley (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) has started all seven matches for Oakland County of the UPSL, while Aerin West (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) has served as the starting center back and captain for all eight matches for Toledo Villa FC. West has scored one goal and has contributed to the team allowing only seven goals as it sits in first place in the UPSL Midwest standings at 5-2-1.
Competing with an MLS development academy, Mads Tranberg (Copenhagen, Denmark) captained his side and played in eight matches for the DC United U23's before returning home to Denmark. Tranberg also had the opportunity to train with the MLS first team on multiple occasions.
