AKRON, Ohio – University of Cincinnati completed the first round of events at the Akron Zips Classic on Friday night. The men's team currently sit in second place while the women are in third.
 
The second and last day of action begins with a morning session at 10 a.m. and the final events beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
 
// TOP TEN FINISHES
• To start the meet, UC's women finished eighth in the 400 medley relay and the men followed by taking fourth-place and also eighth
• Rocky Laabs touched the wall ninth in the 500 free
• Din Selmanovic won the men's 500 free with a time of 4:30.04. Francisco Arevalo Rubio took tenth place
• The Bearcats finished second, fourth and fifth in the men's 200 IM thanks to performances by Blake Hanna, Dalton Lillibridge and Remington Oland, respectively. Toby Van Dyke was close behind in seventh place
• Olivia Schmelzer had the top time for UC in the 50 free as she placed fifth
• On the men's side, Alex Fortman was fourth in the 50 free while Alberto Garcia was sixth and Kevin McCaffrey was eighth
• The last event of the night was the 800 free relay. The Bearcats women's top finish was fourth. Sydney St. Rose-Finear, Simone Palomo, Caroline Sheehan and Maddie Exton swam for UC
• The men won the 800 free relay, courtesy of swims by Francisco Arevalo Rubio, Hans Kabelka, Van Dyke and Selmanovic. A quartet of UC men also took third
